A Small Business Marketing Strategy. Shows & Expos!
Shows and Expos are a Fun and Profitable Part of a Small Business Marketing Strategy. They're Smart Small Home Business Marketing for Your Soy Candle Business.Marketing your home business thru Shows and Expos is a good way to get exposure for yourself and soy candle business. In fact, one lady on my team centers her entire small business marketing strategy on Expos. Another exclusively does art craft shows. I'm not saying this is all you should or could do but it does prove they are a good way to get exposure. Here are just a few of the shows and expos a soy candle business would be welcome at. Contact your local chamber of commerce for dates and contact info for Expos & Shows held in your area. Now that you've added shows to your small business marketing strategy how do you get ready for one?Soy Candle ProductFirst off you'll need LOTS of Product! No matter how great your small business marketing strategy is if you run out of stock at a show or expo you may as well not have bothered so be sure you take as much stock as you can with you.Consider your market when getting your stock ready. Is an affluent upscale area? Will the shoppers be primarily men or women? What time of year is it? Will people be shopping for themselves or for gifts? All these things will impact the type and amount of product you will need. Take more stock than you think you'll need. It's WAY BETTER to have more than you need than to run out. Also, don't take only scents you favor. Remember, everyone's tastes are different so take an assortment or scents. Your product should be representative of your whole line and price points. However, as a rule, you'll move more of the lower priced items so be sure to stock up on those. Another important thing to have LOTS of is sales materials. Business Cards, Brochures and Catalogs. Get these into the hands of as many people as possible. Even if they don't make a purchase day of... if your sales materials are memorable (see ideas for business cards) they could make a purchase from you in the future. Your Craft Show BoothBe sure you have exact details of your the space you are to have and what comes with it. Some shows provide tables, chairs and even table covers and skirting... Some don't. Know what to expect before you get there. When you set up you booth at either a show or expo you won't have a lot of time or help. You'll need to know how it goes together in advance. I strongly suggest you do a dry run at home well in advance so you can practice putting it up and taking it down. Correct any problems long before you're out in public. Design a modular display that can fit into many different situations is best. Remember go high instead of wide. And people only buy things they can pick up and touch. If it's out of reach they won't buy it. Successfully Marketing Your Home Business at ShowsHere's something most people won't tell you. The money you make at the show isn't the goal of doing it. The goal of the show (as with any small business marketing strategy) is to get your business information into the hands of as many qualified people as possible. These people are qualified for your business in many ways. They paid to get into the show. Do you think they are looking for the kinds of products you have if they had to pay to even get in to see them? If they walk away with even your business card. They at least took the time to stop and examine your soy candles. Don't you think this qualifies them even more? Sure it does. Pass out those scent sample business cards like they are candy. Get one into the hands of every show attendee if you can.Repeat sales is the name of the game. Some of my best customers (and even some folks on my team) started out buying a single melt worth about $1.50. Did that initial sale get me excited. Probably not. Am I excited about it now? You betcha! Attend all your shows and expos with this mind set and you will have NO BAD SHOWS! Consider adding art craft shows or a hospitality expo to your small business marketing strategy. You may be surprised by the results! Let’s work together to create a home based candle business for you!
