Burn Your Scented Soy Wax Candle Correctly & Safely!

Get the most out of your scented soy wax candle. Burning safely and correctly increases your enjoyment and the value of your candle.

scented soy wax candle Follow all manufacturers instructions.
Come on folks, they know their candles best. How your soy wax candle is made impacts melt temperature and burn time. So, take their advice and get the most from your candles!

Never leave a lit candle unattended. Accidents can happen all to quickly, even when you’re near by. I once had a long haired cat wave its tail thru a candle flame and set it on fire. Luckily my husband was sitting nearby and saw what was happening. He grabbed the cat’s tail and smothered the flames before the cat even knew what was happening. Our cat had the nerve to be indignant over having his tail pulled! LOL

Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. Nuff said.

Remove all flammable materials from around the flame of your scented soy wax candle. I’m guessing this one is self explanatory too!

Don’t blow your candle out. Burning a scented soy wax candle makes a large pool of melted soy wax. If you blow the flame out you could splatter the liquid wax all over the place. And though you can clean it up with hot water and soap, who wants to?

So use a wick dipper to push the wick over into the wax pool. Then pull it back out again. I recently learned this trick and when you snuff your scented soy wax candles in this way it creates the tiniest amount of smoke I’ve ever seen! And when it comes to smoke, less is better!

Before lighting, trim wicks to about ¼ of an inch.. Longer wicks make taller flames so your candle will smoke more and burn too fast. Even a scented soy wax candle will put out some smoke, or rather its wick will, if you don’t trim them!

Keep burning candles out of drafts. Drafts cause candles to burn unevenly. Nobody likes a lopsided scented soy wax candle (or any kind of candle for that matter. LOL). You may not even know you have a draft. So perhaps turning your candles once in a while as a precaution is a good idea.

Proper ventilation. Never light any flame with out proper ventilation. Why take chances?

Prevent sunlight damage. Don’t put your scented soy wax candle in direct sun for a long time. It could cause its color to fade.

Burn Time. Burning too long or too short a time could damage your candle. Don’t burn it long enough and the candle won’t have time to totally liquefy and will “tunnel”. In other words you’ll be wasting a lot of wax and that wax cost you money, didn’t it? Burn it too long and if it’s a pillar type candle it could spring a leak in the side. Then you’d have to cut/trim the candle down to be even with the wick. Again, wasting a lot of soy wax.

A good rule of thumb for burning scented gourmet candles or any kind of candles is one hour per inch of candle diameter.

Let your candle harden before lighting it again If you relight it too soon the wax will melt too fast and could over time cut down on the amount of scent it releases when burned.

At Soy-Candle-Business.com we want to keep folks happy and safe.
