Candle making tip… Don’t reinvent the wheel!Starting out on the right foot is crucial to the long term success of any new project and
making candles

Candle making tip… Don’t re-pour! Fix scratches, nicks and blemishes with a Heat Gun instead.Don’t you hate it when you get a candle out of a mold and it’s got a small imperfection? I sure do. You can’t sell it or use it as a gift and you sure don’t want to repour it. My home used to stack up with such candles. Then I learned about heat guns. Heat guns can…help get candles out of the moldSmooth out scratches or tiny imperfections in a pillarRe-melt candle tops until level (for waxes that shrink… i.e. pillar blends)Warm up metal molds before pouringClean up with ease… Use gun to heat up mold or pot and wipe clean with paper toweling
You can find heat guns at you local hardware or craft store.
Candle making tip... Candle Making For Kids!Let your kids help! Kids love making candles. I’m sure
you remember making a dipped candle out of crayons back in grade school?
I know it was one of the highlights of my third grade year.
Here’s a great way to involve your kids in your candle making. Even the smallest children can participate. Have them supply the coloring for your candles! Junk crayons are great for coloring almost
all kinds of candle making wax
(not to mention they make decent tapers all by themselves…LOL). So have your kids save their broken and used up crayons for you. You should have the kids sort the crayons by color into containers. Zip lock baggies work great for this.
Just keep adding crayons until the shade and darkness is the way you want it. One crayon will color about a quart of wax.
Remember to make your melted wax a little darker than you want your finished candle to be because the wax lightens when it’s dry. Candle making tip… Make Soy Candles!
Making soy candles is fun and easy
plus you get all these benefits when you do. Soy candles are…Cleaner Burning… Burn with about 90% less soot. They protect your indoor air quality. You won't have to worry about sooty residue on your ceilings and furnishings or in your lungs.Longer Lasting… Burns up to 50% longer than paraffin candles. Soy Candles burn cooler, and therefore slower, than traditional paraffin candles. This makes them last longer.Non-Toxic & Biodegradable… Less likely to trigger allergies.Environmentally Friendly… Soy Wax is a Renewable Resource grown by American Farmers not a petroleum by product.Easy to clean… Clean up easily with Soap and hot water.
With all these benefits why on earth would you make any other type of candle?
Candle Making tip... Mix-n-Match Candle Making Fragrance Oil!Hobbyists and professionals alike agree your candles live or die by their scent.
Achieving a strong fragrance
is only half the battle. It has to be pleasing as well and preferably something unique to you.
Get your candles noticed and remebered by making something just a little different. Offer old favorites with a twist.
For example... Don't make plain old vanilla but “Vanilla Cinnamon Spice” or “Vanilla Rose”.
One of my favorite places to find new scent combos is my collection of cook books. If you like to eat something, almost by definition, you like the way it smells.
So break open your favorite cook book and explore some new scent opportunities for your candles!Candle Making Tip... Candle History Is A Good Place To Start.Learning how candles were made in times past is a good way to get all the basics out of the way. And it can really add to your candle making experience. For example colonial candle making is fun to do and you'll learn all about rendering suit into tallow and dipping candles. For and older method try the "Roman Method" of medieval candle making here you'll be working with beeswax and you get to play with the wax like it's clay too! No matter what type of historical candle making you decide to try. You'll learn valuable candle making skills and you'll appreciate all the MODERN conveniences you have available to you as a candle maker. But most of all you'll appreciate your light switch more ;)
